Since the groups conception in 1967, Widnes and Runcorn Advanced Motorists have provided car and latterly motorcyclist's with one-to-one guidance to improve their driving or riding techniques and raise standards to that required to become a members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
We offer convenient schedules (weekend, midweek and evening runs) taken in your own car or motorcycle. Preparation for the test consists of taking your own vehicle on a variety of roads with all aspects of your driving being assessed, the Observer will be looking for correct positioning, speeds, use of gears, brakes and steering. All candidates must demonstrate good observational and interpretive skills together with a detailed knowledge of the Highway Code.
Some people are understandably concerned about 'the test', what it involves, and how best to prepare for it - but rather than view this as a daunting experience, it should be regarded as a valuable enhancement to basic driver education.
The best way to prepare for the test is with us, the Widnes and Runcorn Advanced Motorists. Here you can prepare for the test alongside other applicants and receive invaluable guidance from voluntary group members (called "Observers"). You can also join in with the numerous social and informative activities organised by group members.
